“Balloon” dresses September 10, 2014 12:43
Sometime is take a while to understand and adapt an idea….
This is exactly what has happen to my “balloon” dresses. I have seen the Vogue pattern – V1187 when it was just released and was not so sure about it. Over the year it keep appearing on my path, for one reason or the other and I keep wandering “what if…”
And its turn has come, becoming two bright colourful and fun dresses for spring!
Very bold and reminiscent of Mexico floral bodies and slightly textured by English roses print red skirt fabrics.
I wanted warm dress that would hold its balloon shape, so entire dress is interlined with softest wadding. It is so cuddly and comfortable! It is the best dress for curling up with a good book and cup of home-made hot chocolate.
Second dress I decided to make without interlining, but still was interested in keeping the shape. So the seam between a bodies and a skirt is supported by skilfully covered by pink fabric rope.
Fabric prints – Jacobean England on the bodies and matching smaller design of the later era on the skirt. Pink is adding playful accents and bit of freshness to otherwise sombre 16th century England.
